REC governance opportunities 2026

Help shape the future of the recruitment industry

The REC is inviting applications for a number of governance roles across its Board and committees. The roles include: 

  • An independent Non-Executive Director (open to non-members)  

  • Two independent committee members (open to non-members)  

  • Three committee roles for REC members 

These roles offer the opportunity to contribute strategic insight, constructive challenge and senior-level judgement to a national membership body representing the UK recruitment industry.

Independent Non-Executive Director – REC Board

We are seeking to appoint an Independent Non-Executive Director to join the REC Board. Interested applicants should read the following information in full and download the Candidate Information Pack and Terms of Reference.

This role is suited to someone with senior leadership or board-level experience who can bring independent judgement, external perspective and strategic insight. We are particularly interested in candidates from outside the recruitment sector, including professional services, technology, workforce, skills, education, consumer or B2B services, public policy or regulatory environments.  

Time commitment: Six Board meetings per year, including an annual Board away day. Meetings are held in person in London. 
Term: Three years, with the option to extend for a further three years. 
Remuneration: Unremunerated, with reasonable expenses covered.

Remuneration and Appointments Committee

We are seeking to appoint two independent candidates and two REC members.  

The Remuneration and Appointments Committee plays an important role in senior remuneration, succession planning, Board and committee appointments, and ensuring a diversity of experience and background in REC governance.  

Independent candidates must not be REC members. REC-member applicants must be current REC members. We particularly welcome REC members with experience in senior-level remuneration and non-executive or trustee recruitment.  

Time commitment: Four to six days per year. Meetings are held on MS Teams, with selection interviews held in person. 
Term: Three years, with the option to extend for a further three years. 
Remuneration: Unremunerated, with reasonable expenses covered.  

Interviews: Monday 6 and Tuesday 7 July 2026 in person in London.

Audit and Risk Committee

We are seeking to appoint one independent candidate and one REC member. 

The Audit and Risk Committee oversees financial reporting, audit, risk management, internal controls and governance arrangements. Committee members provide strategic oversight and constructive challenge, helping the REC manage risk and support long-term organisational resilience.  

Candidates should bring strong judgement, governance experience, an understanding of audit and risk management, and the ability to scrutinise complex issues.  

Time commitment: At least four meetings per year, usually 60–90 minutes, plus preparation time. 
Term: Three years, with the option to extend for a further term up to a maximum of six years. 
Remuneration: Unremunerated, with reasonable expenses covered.  

Interviews: Monday 6 and Tuesday 7 July 2026 at REC’s London offices.
