Following a successful 30-year career in recruitment, Tenterden-based Helen Harvey is now using her board-level experience to mentor and advise SMEs across the Southeast. She builds long-term relationships with her clients, who are universally enthusiastic in endorsing her abilities. They range from one-woman enterprises to rapidly growing businesses turning over up to £19m a year.
Helen's early career followed a consistently upward trajectory. After 11 years as operations manager for 32 branches and a sales budget of £35m with high street recruiter Manpower, Helen was subsequently appointed operations director. Helen then took on the role of managing director at Select Education, Britain's largest provider of supply teachers, growing the business from 23 to 36 branches and taking sales from £23m to £82m.
In 2005 she joined Sevenoaks-based Active Assistance, suppliers of personal care assistants to people with spinal injury. A much smaller business but one that appealed to Helen's wish to work for an organisation making a real difference to people's lives. In 2007, Helen's career was recognised by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation with a Lifetime Achievement Award. This award was an inspiration in helping Helen decide to become an independent consultant, bringing her experience to help grow other businesses in her sector.
Today she works as a coach, mentor and trainer to recruitment agencies across sectors including education, engineering, healthcare, IT, oil and gas, digital and new REC members. As her reputation spreads, she is now undertaking a similar role for non-recruitment businesses, such as a designer and manufacturer of retail display units operating in five countries.
