REC writes to Public Accounts Committee about NHS staffing

Government and campaigns

The REC recently wrote to the Chair of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to request an inquiry into NHS arrangements on staffing, and value for money. In the letter, we explained the rising costs of temporary staffing, largely driven by the use of staff banks and off-framework agencies – not agencies, as is often depicted. The last time any inquiry was held on this was 2018 and given the ongoing staffing shortages in the NHS and how much the service has endured over the course of the pandemic, an inquiry is overdue. You can read the letter here.
