IR35

  • Stakeholder Engagement Manager Ornella Nsio talked IR35 at HMRC's employment tax group meeting with Financial Secretary to the Treasury, Jesse Norman MP.
  • Head of Legal Services Lewina Farrell took our IR35 and Good Work Plan seminar roadshow to Leicester.
  • Ornella Nsio attended John McDonnell MP's pre-budget speech on the challenges of Brexit, austerity and coronavirus to be tackled by the government.
  • Ornella Nsio published a blog summing up the government response to IR35 change.

Brexit and Immigration

  • Sophie Wingfield, Tom Hadley and Chris Russell talked EU-UK trade negotiations with our partners from the World Employment Confederation Europe.
  • Sophie Wingfield sat on the CBI Trade Association Council where the economy, COP26 and skills were all on the agenda.
  • Policy Advisor Chris Russell met with the CBI to discuss the new immigration system.
  • Chris Russell spoke at the Lift the Ban Coalition Gathering on integrating asylum seekers in the employment market.
  • Chris Russell sat on a London First’s #FullStrength policy roundtable to discuss the policy priorities of the coalition in light of the newly announced immigration system.

Compliance

  • Policy Advisor Neal Suchak and Head of Policy and Public Affairs Sophie Wingfield met with the Department of Health & Social Care to discuss compliance standards and apps.
  • Policy Advisor Chris Hartley joined in on a GLAA joint labour users and providers liaison meeting. Discussion focused on the budget, the delayed government answer to the Single Enforcement Body consultation, and the GLAA’s compliance strategy.
  • Sophie Wingfield, Head of Compliance Clare Flower and Chief Executive Neil Carberry welcomed officials from the BEIS at REC HQ to discuss compliance and enforcement.
  • Sophie Wingfield and Senior Solicitor Bunmi Adefuye talked about joint working with The Pension Regulator.
  • Chris Hartley and Tom Hadley had a call with the advisory firm for risk assessment Capstone.
  • Sophie Wingfield met with the TUC for a regular catch up.

 

Future of Jobs

  • Ornella Nsio participated in an expert seminar on the use of algorithms and AI in recruitment at the Equality and Human Rights Commission.
  • Director of Policy and Campaigns Tom Hadley wrote a blog on the Future of Recruitment: Notes from the North West.
  • We held not one but two Future of Recruitment Forums. In Birmingham with speakers from LinkedIn and the Greater Birmingham Chambers; and in Edinburgh. Don’t forget to check out our Regions 2025 report!

Diversity and Inclusion

  • Ornella Nsio discussed a joint project between the REC, the DWP and the Minister of Justice to help get more ex-offenders into work. 
  • Sophie Wingfield met with Antony Higginbotham MP to discuss priorities for the recruitment Industry in 2020 and good recruitment.
  • Ornella Nsio attended the Carnegie UK Trust launch of their Race Inequality in the Workforce report.
