Getting on: What progress looks like for low-paid workers

Working in a low-paid job can open up opportunities to progress by providing experience and development within a specific sector.

This report explores the challenges faced by the people in these jobs who want to progress. It also reveals that although employers and Jobcentres both believe they provide suitable advice and guidance on how to get on, many of the workers we spoke to disagreed. This highlights the importance of harnessing the expertise of the recruitment sector to help workers progress.

Jobs transform lives. That’s why we at the REC want to work in partnership with government and other stakeholders to build the best jobs market in the world, helping people in all areas of the labour market – including those in low-paid work – to get on in life.
