IR35: Join Our 2019-2020 Series of Practical Seminars Nationwide
Government and campaigns
We kicked off our 2019-2020 series of IR35 practical seminars in May with the first one taking place in Southampton followed by two sessions in London.
Led by our in-house legal experts, these interactive four-hour seminars are designed to provide you with a clear practical understanding of what you need to do to prepare your business, staff and clients ahead of the IR35 rules being implemented into the private sector. This is also an excellent opportunity to meet our in-house legal team and IR35 experts to get first-hand advice on any concerns specific to your business.
At these REC seminars, we will:
- give you clear and practical advice to navigate your way through the changes
- tell you what the changes are, how they will impact on your business as well as how they will impact your clients and contractors
- share our extensive learning from the roll out of the off-payroll rules in the public sector
- explain who in your company should be involved, how to avoid the common compliance issues that occur when candidates work via their own limited company, and what questions to ask payroll providers if you decide to engage them
- provide the inside track – we’ve met with HMRC, via our IR35 working group of members, a number of times now to discuss these proposals, so you don’t have to
In particular, you’ll learn about:
Session 1 - IR35 – the legal view
Led by Lewina Farrell, Head of Legal Services, REC
- How we got here and why
- What REC has done so far
- What does the draft legislation say (or if still no legislation, what does the consultation propose?)
- Update on IR35 cases to date
- Possible legal issues
Session 2 - Practical considerations for hirer
Led by Joe Tully, Managing Director, Brookson Legal
- What HMRC is asking the hirer to do
- Who are the in-house and external experts?
- Communicating with your agencies and contractors, and educating stakeholders
- Assessment by role (incl employment status assessment)
- Auditing your current contractor workforce
- Building your new policies and processes
Session 3 - What recruitment agencies need to be doing internally to implement the new rules
Led by Bernie Payne, Legal, Commercial & Compliance Consultant
- Who needs to be involved in the implementation
- Determining levels of support for clients and contractors
- Commercial consequences of clients’ actions and activities
- Understanding & mitigating liability and risk
- System and process changes & considerations
