‘Involving recruiters would complete the Chancellor’s apprenticeship puzzle’ - REC

Responding to the Chancellor’s speech at Labour Conference 2026, Shazia Ejaz, Director of Campaigns at the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), said:

“Today’s announcement on apprenticeships must stoke the firebox for further action in the Budget to encourage employers to create more entry level opportunities and pathways into work. Our sector helps young people find routes into work and training. Temporary work provides opportunities for thousands of young people and through which they can build experience to pursue long term careers. Hopefully, the new mayor-led local apprenticeship service will simplify the process. Involving recruiters would complete the puzzle, bringing together local leaders, training providers, employers and recruitment experts to help more young people skill up to meet the demands of local employers. To get the most out of policies to get young people into work, the government must also protect temporary work and avoid employment legislation that makes it harder for employers to create jobs. Accelerating reform of the Growth and Skills Levy to provide more flexibility for shorter courses will also help employers invest in training.”
