The recruitment landscape is shifting fast. As we move into 2026, agencies face a mix of economic pressure, political change, tech disruption, and a workforce with radically different expectations. The question isn’t whether the industry will change, it’s whether your agency is ready for what’s coming.
Even though new job postings in the UK in October 2025 was 754,359 – up by 2.1% from September 2025, competition is tightening, clients are unpredictable, and recruiters are expected to deliver speed, quality, and flexibility with smaller teams and tighter budgets. Growing internal headcount the traditional way no longer stacks up financially, particularly when competing with nationals able to absorb higher costs.
Political decisions over the next year will directly influence the availability of talent. Updates to immigration rules, visa routes, and skills-shortage lists will determine which sectors struggle or thrive. Increased compliance scrutiny, including right-to-work checks and reporting requirements, is likely to intensify. Fiscal policy could pull hiring confidence in either direction: investment incentives may expand demand in STEM and green sectors, while public-sector spending reviews may slow recruitment elsewhere. Agencies will need to stay agile and help clients anticipate these shifts rather than react to them.
Gen Z now makes up 27% (58% by 2030) of the workforce and places as much importance on employer values as on salary. Many prioritise flexibility, purpose, and career development, and will walk away from companies seen as unethical or misaligned. At the same time, remote work has widened talent pools and intensified competition. Candidates you’d never previously reach are now accessible, but so are competitors you’d never previously face.
AI adoption is accelerating, with most recruitment professionals now using it to reduce workloads, automate admin, and improve productivity. Integrated ATS systems, automated engagement tools, and video recruitment platforms are becoming standard. But tech without the right people behind it is just expensive software, and many internal teams struggle to implement new systems effectively while still hitting their targets.
Forward-thinking agencies are restructuring now. Strategic outsourcing has become one of the most practical ways to scale desks without the overheads of UK salaries. Done well, it boosts capacity, protects margins, and frees senior staff to focus on client development.
At Infinity Staff Global, our South African-based recruitment specialists integrate directly into UK agency desks, supporting sourcing, 360 recruitment, and admin so you can stay competitive, agile, and profitable in 2026.
