Kristy Moore is a senior consultant at Acorn Recruitment, and was named Permanent Consultant of the Year and Recruiter of the Year at the 2017 IRP Awards.

Recruitment Matters got to know a little more about Kristy.

Congratulations on winning Recruiter of the Year at the IRP Awards. Has it sunk in?

Not really – it’s an honour to have achieved this award within such a strong category. The support I’ve had from Acorn in the lead up to the competition has been phenomenal. I could not have achieved such a prestigious award without the support of my team and branch. It really was a joint effort to achieve this outstanding result.

Can you tell us about your role with Acorn?

I predominantly manage a team of four and recruit for all permanent placements across commercial and industrial sectors, as well as heading up the commercial temp desk and ensuring my team fulfil their job requirements week-in-and-week-out. I also attend new business meetings, generating sales for the branch, and ensure all existing clients are catered for and feel valued. There is no other industry that is so varied, with new challenges daily. Having exceptional customer service is key to being successful in my role, always putting the client first and understanding that without candidates you can never be a success in this industry.

What about recruitment appeals to you?

Every day is varied and different from the last. Recruitment is fast-moving, ever-changing and I’m always learning. When visiting clients, it’s paramount in understanding the client’s full requirements and what will work well for the business. Areas such as team dynamics are key as you need to visualise the company itself, in order to place the right candidate that will stay and grow within the business for years to come. What I love about recruitment is helping candidates get placed in their dream roles, and knowing that I have made a difference, whether it will be saving someone from losing their mortgage (due to them being made redundant), or helping someone overcome their nerves when applying for their first ever job.

I strive to be number one in the market place, and always strive for perfection in all I do, so really getting to know your clients and what they are seeking will help you place the right candidate first time, every time, and increase profits year upon year.

What differentiates you from the competition?

I go above and beyond each and every day, by prepping a candidate for interview outside of work hours, or driving them to and fro at interview stage, to ensure no last minute nerves occur. In regards to clients, I will conducts meetings outside of work hours to suit the their busy lifestyle/needs, an example of this is - I checked in 50 temps on a Saturday morning for a large campaign to ensure the client had full capacity of staff onsite. I network with my clients regularly to ensure they feel important and at the forefront of my mind.

My clear passion and never-give-up attitude also adds value, as without these attributes, failure is inevitable. When a placement seems impossible to fill, it’s all about determination and setting myself daily targets, to make it appear more manageable. It’s paramount to know the company - the background history, the benefits package to really make your job stand out in the market place, and let your job be the last one the candidate is left remembering!

Could you be 2018's Recruiter of the Year? Entries for the IRP Awards will open soon, so keep an eye out!
