What was in the Queen’s Speech?

Government and campaigns

Although there was no reference to the Employment Bill in the Queen’s Speech, two other bills were announced:

  • National Insurance Contributions Bill (which will provide a relief for employers of veterans, for employers in freeports, and for the self-employed who receive NHS Test and Trace Payments)
  • The Professional Qualifications Bill (which is designed to create a new framework to recognise professional qualifications from across the world to ensure the UK can access professionals in areas of a workforce shortage). improve transparency around the entry and practice requirements of certain regulated professions - medicine, nursing and teaching and architecture. In due course it will allow for international agreements between professional bodes to facilitate reciprocal recognition of professional qualifications.

But, neither of the above Bills have been published yet. There also proposed changes to employment tribunal rulemaking powers and procedures. We will inform members when we have more details. In the meantime, you can continue to check our Legal news and views section for any legislative updates.
