The Recruitment & Employment Confederation’s (REC’s) flagship life sciences sector group provides specialist support and advice to recruitment agencies working in a range of areas including pharmaceuticals, scientific research, biochemistry and biomedical technology.

It is estimated that the UK Life Sciences sector generates a turnover of over £56 billion making it one of the strongest and most productive life sciences sectors in the world and it employs over 160,000 people. It's growth is set to continue over the coming years.

Life Sciences Executive Committee
The REC Life Sciences Sector Group provides a platform to share and improve the future of the life science recruitment sector, while enhancing skills and professional standards.
1. Ensure that the REC Life Sciences Sector Group maintains high professional standards,and that group members are widely recognised by clients, candidates and others as being highly professional recruiters.
2. Ensure that the interests of the life science recruitment sector are best represented by the REC.
3. Be a continual voice for the life sciences recruitment sector.
Ricky Martin (Hyper Recruitment Solutions) - Chair
Ricky is a qualified Biochemist, member of the Royal Society of Chemistry and founder of the specialist scientific recruitment consultancy Hyper Recruitment Solutions (HRS). Ricky has over ten years’ experience recruiting internationally for the sciences, and runs HRS alongside Lord Alan Sugar after a successful investment process on BBC One’s The Apprentice in 2012. Ricky is a regular columnist for the Recruiter magazine, is recognised as one of the leading voices in the industry and, as of December 2014, is also a Trusted Advisor to Lord Sugar and interviewer on the selection panel of The Apprentice and regular after show panellist on You’re Hired / Fired.
Ricky joined the Life Sciences Sector Group to enhance the professional image of the life sciences recruitment sector. He is particularly interested in helping REC members to drive higher professional standards and communicate these achievements to clients. Richard Acton (SRG) - Vice Chair
Richard Acton is a Director of SRG and has been with the business for over 15 years. Prior to his move into recruitment, Richard worked in Forensic Science, sourcing his first role through SRG. Recognising his experience as both a life science candidate and as a hiring manager, Richard joined SRG wanting to provide a high level of service to candidates and clients. Richard has held several roles within SRG and is currently the Director of the Senior Appointments division of SRG; Premium by SRG.
Richard is currently the Vice Chair of the REC Life Science Sector Group, looking to bring the passion for quality, professional standards and sharing best practice to raise the standards of recruitment businesses within the industry. Liam is Operations Director of CK Associates Ltd, which is active in the clinical, science, IT and engineering sectors. He has over 23 years’ experience in life sciences recruitment and was one of the founders of CK Associates. Before becoming a recruiter, Liam worked in HR and other businesses but was lured into the recruitment industry by the excitement and glamour associated with it.
Liam’s vision for the REC Life Sciences Sector Group is for it to act as a conduit for new ideas within the sector, and for it to play a major role in highlighting the importance of the industry to government and other institutions. He actively encourages REC members to get involved with the group by attending events, liaising with the Executive Committee and putting forward ideas. Daniel Clifton (Paramount Recruitment)
Daniel is the Founder and Managing Director of Paramount Recruitment Ltd, established in 2003. Daniel has over 20 years recruitment experience from a variety of industries such as IT, Electronics, and Telecoms, with the last 12 years dedicated to the Pharmaceutical, Scientific and Medical Devices sectors throughout Europe.
Daniel has been an active REC member since 2003, and welcomes the opportunity to work with recruitment consultancies ranging from start-ups through to global organisations. He believes collaboration between industry experts and continuous knowledge sharing will help shape and improve recruitment practices within the sector.
Scott Peacock (Seltek)
Scott is a graduate neuroscientist, Director and Partner of Seltek Consultants - a niche, pan European recruiter within the life science industry. He joined Seltek as a trainee in January 1997 and quickly developing a passion for recruitment within the life science sector. Actively developing talented recruiters within his business and personally handling searches allows Scott to maintain a detailed understanding of the sector and challenges of recruiting within it.
Scott joined the REC Life Sciences Sector Group in 2012 as he is a passionate advocate of raising the professional standards of recruitment and having these recognised by the wider life sciences industry. Promoting recruitment as a long term career choice that offers a wonderful variety of opportunities is a key priority in raising standards. Gary Taylor (UKICS)
Gary is the Strategic Partnership Director at ICS Group Ltd. He entered the recruitment industry after a successful military career during which he recruited and trained new servicemen. He has held a number of senior and board level positions within leading recruitment businesses. Following The Pathology Group becoming part of ICS Group Ltd, one of the UK’s leading healthcare staffing providers, Gary was appointed Strategic Partnerships Director for the overall Group of 10 businesses.
Gary is also an active member and spokesperson for the REC’s Health and Social Care Executive Committee and Professional Standards Committee. He sees the Life Sciences Sector Group as an opportunity to promote best practice within the recruitment industry and help members remain at the forefront of sector developments.
Fallon Gilhooley (FLG Consultancy)
Fallon has over eight years’ experience recruiting internationally in Life Sciences and Healthcare, and is now an independent consultant to the recruitment industry providing Learning and Development for high performers through dynamic training programs with a clear focus around sales and management training, leadership and insight strategies.
