Association of Executive Recruiters

Association of Executive Recruiters

The Recruitment & Employment Confederation's (REC) Association of Executive Recruiters (AER) provides specialist information and advice to executive search and selection consultants and offers the opportunity to tackle the leading issues affecting the executive search industry.

The Association of Search & Selection Consultancies was formed in 1983, became a division of REC in 1995 and reformed as the Association of Executive Recruiters in 2005.

This group sets out a dynamic events programme throughout the year inviting leading experts to share insight into the most pressing issues for the executive search industry. These have included the future of leadership, corporate good governance and improving the diversity of UK boardrooms.

AER sector meetings also provide networking opportunities and serve as a forum for members to feed into the REC’s influencing and campaigning activity. For example, the AER has played an influential role in the women on boards agenda and continues to work with the government and other key stakeholders to promote gender equality at the senior level and increase awareness of good recruitment practices.

As new and emerging patterns are established in the workplace, the role of effective leadership is being reinforced. This redrawing of the lines of what leadership means in the modern context is impacting the way companies must build and evolve their board of directors and leadership teams. Consequently, the executive search industry continues to play a vital role in ensuring the success of organisations through the quality of their leaders. However, like the clients it serves, the executive recruitment industry must also strive to change and adapt. It is our express hope that by setting out these guiding principles of ‘good practice’ we will induce an aspirational mode of thinking and a relentless pursuit of innovation in all areas of the sector.

Finally, it is our collective wish to see the recommendations in this guide continue to strengthen the value and importance of the UK executive recruitment services sector over the coming years and that we have cause to continuously revise and update this guide as new effective practices surface.
