Expression of Interest: Associate Legal Trainer

Are you an employment law expert with first-hand experience of the recruitment industry?

The REC is seeking an experienced legal professional and trainer to join our associate trainer network, delivering two of our flagship legal training programmes:

  • Recruitment Law: Understanding the Essentials (one-day programme)

  • Agency Worker Regulations (AWR) (half-day programme)

These programmes help recruitment professionals develop the legal and compliance knowledge needed to operate confidently and ethically in today's regulatory environment.

We are looking for an individual who combines deep expertise in employment and recruitment law with a strong understanding of the recruitment industry. Most importantly, candidates must be able to translate complex legal concepts into practical guidance that recruiters can apply in their day-to-day work.

About the role

The successful trainer will deliver engaging and interactive training sessions to recruiters, managers and recruitment business owners, both online and in person. Sessions should be highly practical, combining legal knowledge with real-world recruitment scenarios and current industry challenges.

Essential experience

 Applicants must demonstrate:

  • Significant expertise in UK employment law and recruitment-related legislation.

  • Detailed knowledge of the Agency Worker Regulations (AWR) and their practical application.

  • Experience advising, supporting or working with recruitment businesses.

  • A strong understanding of the recruitment industry's operating models, commercial pressures and compliance challenges.

  • Experience delivering professional training, workshops or learning programmes.

  • The ability to confidently facilitate discussion and respond to complex legal and operational questions from delegates.

  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills.

We are particularly interested in hearing from

  • Employment lawyers or legal consultants who specialise in the recruitment sector.

  • Former or current legal, compliance or operational leaders within recruitment businesses.

  • Independent consultants who have supported recruitment agencies on legal and compliance matters.

  • Professionals who have a combination of legal expertise and hands-on recruitment industry experience.

What success looks like

The trainer will be able to:

  • Bring legal principles to life through relevant recruitment examples.

  • Help delegates understand not just what the law says, but how it applies in practice.

  • Share industry insight and practical recommendations.

  • Create an engaging learning environment that encourages discussion and knowledge sharing.

  • Act as a credible subject matter expert and ambassador for the REC.
