Campaign Snapshot
Government and campaigns
Welcome to our weekly dispatch from the campaign trail and review of hot topics for the industry (with a few calls to action thrown in for good measure!).
The publication of the REC Manifesto was the big set-piece this week. Not much matters more to people than the work that they do, which is why we want to make this a jobs general election. As well as taking forward priority issues for the industry in the run-up to December 12, we will be using the manifesto to build links with incoming MPs and Ministers post-election. We are calling on REC members to be industry ‘activists’ and help to spread the word. Let’s get involved, let’s make great work happen!
Highlights of the week
Amidst the General Election wall of sound, here are some of this week’s highlights from the REC perspective:
- Our Manifesto for the upcoming elections went live on Monday. We will use this to ramp up our four campaigning themes and take forward specific asks to the next government.
- Our Chief Executive Neil Carberry commented on the latest ONS labour market stats: "The warning signs are there in the form of slowing jobs growth and falling vacancies while REC data shows skills shortages across a number of sectors."
- It's been a busy week on the sectoral front, including the REC Construction meeting with external speakers from BEIS, Construction News and Bounce Back. Global immigration experts Fragomen addressed the REC Technology meet which also focused on IR35 and other regulatory challenges.
- We have now reached a total of 485 signatories to our Good Recruitment Campaign, fantastic progress towards our milestone target of 500. Help get it over the line ahead of schedule by flagging the campaign to clients!
Calls to action and forthcoming events
- Help us broaden the Apprenticeship Levy - our Training for Temps campaign is still going strong. Ask your staff and workers to sign the petition, 1000 signatories is our next milestone
- We're holding a Life Sciences Meeting on the 19th November, and a Professional Services Meeting on the 27th November
- Our latest IR35 Seminar takes place on the 20th of November in Cambridge
- We are hosting our Talking Recruitment Webinar on the 13th of December
Have a good weekend and week ahead - Lola
