The stage is set – start your career with a bang (and drumroll) at a festival or concert this summer

Press releases

This summer provides not just a breakthrough chance for music bands at festivals and concerts, but can also provide that big break for people to find work and begin a career in hospitality.

Amid a youth worklessness crisis and a lack of workers to fill hospitality roles, people who are available to work this summer, such as those finishing school exams very soon across the UK, should look out for these job adverts going ‘live’ right now.

The vacancies on offer are music to the ears of people who want to get a lot of hospitality experience quickly and earn money while working in a lively environment and make the most of the British sunshine.

For example, the vacancies on offer from just one of our 3,000 members, Arc Hospitality Recruitment, include roles at events across the country, and some of those headlined by Dua Lipa, Gun n’Roses and Linkin Park – and the big reunion of Oasis. This should interest not just music fans, with roles also on offer for the biggest sporting events of the summer, such as Queen’s Tennis Championship, British Formula 1 Grand Prix and The Open golf championship.

This makes working in hospitality the golden ticket this summer.

Neil Carberry, REC Chief Executive, said:

“We are keen to bang the drum for recruiters who can offer people from every background a chance to give hospitality a go, such as by working at a festival, concert or sporting event this summer. Agency work is such a great way to get experience and make money over the summer in ways that suit you – and even kick-start your career in such an exciting and varied sector. There is no shortage of hospitality roles to apply for according to our regular jobs data, if working this summer strikes the right chord with you. And if you find you like work but in a different sector, there are thousands of agencies out there that can get you that big career break.”

Jobseekers can search the REC Member Directory at www.rec.uk.com for even more hospitality and other agencies looking for workers.

Paul Marcinkowski, Director of Arc Hospitality Recruitment, said:

“Experience in hospitality is always great, and we love seeing applicants with previous experience. But the most important qualities we look for are attitude, reliability, and communication. We offer full flexibility; team members can travel and work as often and little as they like - do one event or 20! Adaptability is key, throw yourself into events and experience live events from behind the scenes. For example, our festival bars are busy, so we look for those who are outgoing, have lots of energy and love interacting with customers. They can DM us on our Instagram @wearearc.co.uk or via our website www.wearearc.co.uk

Hospitality is the third largest employer in the country and with favourable conditions, hospitality could increase its economic contribution by £29 billion and create 500,000 new jobs by 2027, said UK Hospitality. The skills learnt this summer ae among the most transferable, such as customer‑facing, kitchen, finance, marketing and management. And as UKH points out, the average wage levels have increased substantially in recent years and look set to do so further in the future. It is true that entry-level wage rates in hospitality are towards the lower end, but they also offer much more rapid advancement than other sectors, says UKH.

Michelle Mellor is Chair of the REC and the Co-Founder of CJUK, which works to the supply chefs nationally across the country.

Michelle, who trained and worked as a chef before recruitment and started her recruitment business supplying chefs to the industry when hospitality recruiters were very few and far between in 1990, said:

“Hospitality is often the first step into the world of work for young people and one of the best! It builds essential skills like communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and a solid work ethic, all of which transfer to any career.

“It is not just bars and restaurants, either. From hotels and events to leisure services to spa services, and global opportunities, the industry is broad and full of possibilities. This summer, we are hiring across kitchen teams, guest services, events, and more.

“The training you get in hospitality stays with you for life. It builds confidence, resilience, and opens doors across every industry.”
