REC Response to Health Secretary Matt Hancock Signalling the Government Will Launch a Further Crackdown on the Use of NHS Agency Staff
Press releases
Recruitment & Employment Confederation director of policy Tom Hadley responds to Health Secretary Matt Hancock's comments saying:
“Targeting temporary and locum staff who keep our NHS going is the wrong approach and risks damaging staff morale.”
“Recruiters are ready to work with Government to ensure fairness and value for money for the taxpayer as well as high standards of care. Framework agreements and pricing caps are already in place and the industry is ready to work with the NHS on any further changes that are needed. There is little evidence, though, that internal staffing options like banks offer better value for taxpayers.
“At a time of unprecedented staff shortages and recruitment challenges, government and the NHS should be focusing on better workforce planning and looking for ways of working with agencies in the public interest, rather than unfairly marginalising their contribution.”
