REC comments on 2026 World Cup dates and times: ‘Huge boost for hospitality venues’

Press releases

Commenting on the announcement of dates and times for the FIFA 2026 World Cup, the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) Chief Executive Neil Carberry said:

“Later kick-offs at the 2026 World Cup mean a huge boost for hospitality venues and some great opportunities to pick up shifts and get a start in a fantastic industry. Given the challenges the sector has faced, public authorities should be supporting venues to be able to cater for increased demand.

“For employers more broadly, the later kick off times mean fewer clashes with the core working day for most people. As always, sensible employers will embrace the moment by finding sensible flexibility for staff who want to watch their team play a late game, and using it as an opportunity to engage colleagues across the business. Our working lives may be changing, but the World Cup sweepstake lives for ever!

“Whether you are supporting the Tartan Army to glory, or some other team, the World Cup is a great time to find connection with colleagues and celebrate the beautiful game.”
