National Apprenticeship Week- Mia's Story

Your recruitment career

Welcome to National Apprenticeship Week for 2024! This week is about celebrating all things apprenticeships, so with that in mind, we asked some of our very own apprentices to share their story.

Meet Mia Kirkpatrick, Finance Administrator Apprentice here at the REC, she joined us in late 2023 and has grown and helped drive success.

What do you enjoy most about being an apprentice?

What I enjoy most about being an apprentice is working and learning at the same time. Receiving real-life experience and applying what I am taught by my manager to my day-to-day role allows me to progress independently.

  • I have learnt a lot doing my apprenticeship including:

  • Learning how to work as a team
  • Taking control of my own responsibilities
  • Problem-solving

What kind of goals do you have for your career?

Even though I have only been an apprentice for just over 3 months, I am looking forward to lots of opportunities to continuously grow and build my knowledge, skills and confidence.

What advice would you give to other people looking to do an apprenticeship?

As a school leaver, an apprenticeship is an excellent opportunity as you will have little to no work experience and it’s a great way to introduce yourself to working life building on your responsibilities. You are also working whilst still receiving an education resulting in a qualification.

Would you recommend an apprenticeship in recruitment to others?

I would 100% recommend an apprenticeship in finance as it is challenging but also very enjoyable, I have learned lots of new skills and how to use lots of different systems.
