The REC has announced the appointment of its new team of Chief Examiners who will be responsible for the delivery of the new-look qualifications being introduced this year.
The team will help the REC develop and shape the qualifications and their component units to ensure they are relevant and fit for purpose.
Commenting on their appointment, Judith Armatage, the REC’s Director of Professional Development, said:
“We are now at a very crucial stage in the delivery of the qualifications and are delighted that we now have such a broad base of expertise from a distinguished team of recruitment professionals. The team has been recruited from over 70 applicants and has the task of translating the outline Units of the Entry and Professional qualifications into detailed syllabi and assessments.
“The support shown by the group and industry during consultation is another demonstration to us of how practicing recruitment experts are helping professionalise the industry and its future stars and leaders.”
The team of Chief and Assistant Examiners is:
Alison Humphries FIRP CertRP is an REC Chief Examiner since 2005 who has also worked as a director with leading recruitment businesses for more that 25 years. An Oxford graduate, Alison is also a member of the CIPD.
Tony Taylor FIRP has worked in executive search for a number of years, acting on behalf of clients around the world. Having always taken a keen interest in qualifications and professional development, he has been involved with many initiatives to develop qualifications for the recruitment sector and is the current Chief Examiner for the Certificate in Recruitment Practice.
Andrew Savage FIRP is both a Chartered Fellow of the CIPD and IRP, who has worked as a director and external consultant/advisor in HR and general management for over 20 years. Among his other numerous roles, he is a recruitment standards auditor and chief examiner for the REC’s current Diploma in Recruitment Practice.
Dan McCarthy MIRP DipRP has 13 years of experience in recruitment with Informatiq Consulting Ltd, he has focused on building partnerships with some of the world’s leading organisations and now leads the company’s integration and consultancy offering.
Denise Walker FIRP headed up the REC’s original industry specific support service but has also over the past 25 years worked as a manager, owner, director, business consultant and trainer within the industry. Denise has so far worked with more than 180 companies in her numerous consultancy roles.
Gill Stewart FIRP CertRP has over 20 years experience in the recruitment industry both with owner/managed businesses and within the larger corporate environment. She was a director and shareholder of Tate which sold to Carlisle Staffing in 2000 after which she set up Carlisle’s Managed Solutions business before becoming a self-employed consultant at the end of 2008.
James Hartshorn FIRP is a business graduate with more than 20 years experience consulting in the talent management, HRC and executive search industries. Among his previous ventures have been part of six successful start-ups including Leading in Europe. He is also a keen networker and relationship builder.
Dr Julia Gardner FIRP has over 25 years experience with companies such as Hays and more recently Jark. In this time she has worked her way up from junior consultant in temporary recruitment to Director of Public Sector, a position she held for 14 years. She is keen to see standards of training improve within the industry, one of the reasons she has become an Assistant Chief Examiner.
Laurence Cosnett FIRP CertRP began his career in 15 years ago as a permanent consultant for a High Street brand. Within 18 months of joining, he had been promoted to work as part of the National Business Development team, pitching and presenting to the boards of many FTSE companies. He has since worked with large agencies and small independent companies.
Lisa Townsend FIRP has over a decade of experience with both a global and a niche recruiter. She now runs her own recruitment business supplying staff to the property sector.
Sarah Baxter FIRP CertRP qualified as a lawyer in London in 1994 before moving into recruitment three years later. Having worked in both New York and Hong Kong, she joined Munro Consulting in Scotland in 2002. Latterly, Sarah headed up Harvey Nash’s Legal and Company Secretarial practice before setting up Lexical, a niche legal search boutique in 2009.
Stephen Brewis FIRP is Impellam’s Group Governance Manager, providing it with an internal resource assisting in the implementation of regulatory change. He has been in recruitment for nearly 20 years and as an REC Chief Examiner, he wants to focus on the practical application of legislation as well as legal knowledge.
Fiona Coombe is a well known legal expert in the recruitment industry and until last year Head of Legal at the REC. Fiona has over 12 years experience supporting the industry and has become the Legal Scrutineer for both Entry and Professional level qualifications.
