REC statement ahead of BBC programme on care home inspections

Commenting on the new enforcement regime ahead of the BBC programme, Peter Cullimore, Chair of the REC’s Nursing & Social Care Sector Group, says: "All law-abiding businesses operating within the care sector want to ensure that any rogue employers or agencies are identified and are not allowed to put clients at risk or undercut legitimate providers.

“Concerns over the number of inspectors are understandable, although the increasing focus on outcomes and on limiting some of the unnecessary bureaucracy may actually enhance the enforcement regime.

“Organisations involved in the provision and monitoring of care services must continue to work together to address instances of abuse.  Within this context, recruitment agencies have a key role to play in effectively vetting all workers who are sent to work with some of the most vulnerable people in our society.”

The REC Nursing & Social Care Sector Group includes specialised agencies in the domiciliary care sector.  As the representative body for the UK recruitment industry, the REC is in regular dialogue with CSCI and also monitors compliance with the Code of Professional Practice that all REC members must adhere to.
