REC duo in the running to raise money for charity

Released on 22 February 2010

The REC will be represented in the Virgin London Marathon in April by two intrepid members of its Membership Team.

Both Peter Copus and Gary Thornton will be making their marathon debuts in this epic race on Sunday April 25 and will be hoping to raise money en route for their two chosen charities.

The London Marathon is the first leg in a marathon double for Account Manager Gary as he has also been accepted to run in the New York Marathon in November. His chosen charity is Spinal Research.

So far, the furthest distance he has tackled is running from the REC’s Woking office where he is based to his home in Farnborough -about 12 miles away - but he is looking forward to the challenge of completing both 26 mile courses.

For Peter, the REC’s Head of Membership and Customer Relations, this is the first time in six attempts that he has been successful in obtaining entry for the race. He will be running on behalf of the REC’s chosen charity, KidsOut, the only charity in the UK dedicated to bringing fun and happiness into the lives of disadvantaged children.

The duo successfully completed the Portsmouth Half Marathon yesterday (Sunday February 21). For more information about their proposed runs, their charities or to offer support or sponsorship, please contact them on peter.copus@rec.uk.com or gary.thornton@rec.uk.com. Both would also welcome any hints or tips from REC members who have already successfully run a marathon.
