REC backs calls to employers help north-east’s young people back into work
The REC has backed government calls for employers to offer the north-east’s young people opportunities to get into work.
Following a visit to Newcastle by Employment Minister, Jim Knight MP, the REC highlighted some of the initiatives being undertaken to prevent the current generation of young people being lost to unemployment.
The REC has already signed up to the Government’s Backing Young Britain Campaign to pledge the recruitment industry’s support in helping young people. It has also set up its own Youth Employment Taskforce to bring together leading figures in recruitment and HR and provide practical solutions to getting young unemployed people into work.
Commenting on the Backing Young Britain campaign and on the Taskforce progress so far, Kelly Adamson, the REC’s North East Regional Director said:
“We need to act now as a further group of young job seekers will be entering the labour market in summer. Employers and recruiters in this region can play a crucial role in highlighting the skills and support mechanisms needed to help build bridges into the world of work.
“The REC believes the government must take the lead in stimulating job creation such as encouraging entrepreneurship and the event being held in Newcastle by the Entrepreneur Forum on Monday typifies this kind of action.
Kelly Adamson added:
“The REC’s Youth Employment Taskforce is all about developing practical recommendations on such initiatives and taking a longer term outlook so the jobs and skills needs of the future are identified.
“But it is down to employers in the north-east working with recruiters to ensure opportunities are forthcoming where young people are able to experience the world of work and gain valuable skills at the same time.”
