REC highlights industry role on BBC Scotland Politics Show
The REC has continued to extend its media presence in the regions and was invited to take part in the BBC Scotland Politics Show yesterday (Sunday).
The programme focused on the current challenges facing job-seekers from the higher end of the jobs market and on the role that recruitment agencies can play.
Appearing live on the Politics Show, REC External Relations Advisor Phillip Curry said:
"Jobcentres have made huge strides in recent years but cannot be expected to deliver specific guidance and job-search support to all categories of workers - particular highly skilled professionals. This is where the expertise of specialised recruitment agencies in Scotland and elsewhere can play a key role.
"We need to build on the increasing co-operation between local jobcentres and private sector agencies. At the same time, it is important to remember that the temporary and contract work opportunities that agencies provide are a crucial stepping-stone back into employment."
The REC has been working with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) on a specific scheme to help higher-end job seekers get back into work by tapping into the job-search expertise of specialised recruitment providers.
The Politics Show programme also focused on the general outlook for the jobs market and referenced the latest data from the REC JobsOutlook survey which shows that one in five employers surveyed are looking to hire new staff in 2010.
