REC debates future of employment and labour market with TUC General Secretary

Released on 22 September 2008

The REC’s Chief Executive, Kevin Green, and Director of External Relations, Tom Hadley, met with TUC General Secretary Brendan Barber and his team last week.

The focus of the conversation was the Agency Workers Directive and the role of the REC’s Agency Workers Commission.

Kevin Green said: “While we have in the past disagreed about the need for such legislation in the UK. Now, it is about ensuring that the legislation is well thought through and is implemented in a way which guarantees that employers and temporary employees are not adversely affected – an objective with which the TUC can agree.

"The TUC is keen to provide input to the Commission and is happy to endorse its support for our recommendations.”

The meeting also touched on a range of other issues such as employment regulation and ongoing REC activities to continue raising standards within the recruitment industry.

The REC and the TUC has a number of other joint objectives such as addressing the issues surrounding rogue employers’ activities and agencies that not only exploit workers but also undercut legitimate businesses.
