Employment Law Review - REC statement

Released on 15 March 2012

The Business Secretary Dr Vince Cable has today announced the latest consultation as part of the Government's Employment Law Review. Proposed measures include streamlining dismissal procedures for smaller businesses and addressing other causes of red tape.

Tom Hadley, Director of Policy & Professional Services at the REC, says:

"The recruitment industry welcomes the Secretary of State's desire to give businesses the confidence to hire new staff. We are already seeing positive signs in terms of increased recruitment activity and we will continue to call on Government to accelerate this trend by making jobs and growth its mantra.

"Streamlining red tape and addressing concerns over dismissal procedures may encourage some businesses to dip back into the labour market. However, the priority for all employers  - large and small - is to recruit the  right staff in the first place so as to avoid incompatibility or performance issues further down the line. This is where the expertise of recruitment professionals comes to the fore.”
