REC action on GLA revocation

Following the recent press stories regarding an agency having its licence revoked by the Gangmaster Licensing Authority, the REC has re-iterated its commitment to addressing any instances of bad practice through its own standards procedures.

Commenting on REC procedures regarding the revocation of GLA licences,  Tom Hadley, the REC's Director of External Relations says:  “The REC investigates all serious complaints where one of our members is involved. Serious offences such as those that would lead to a GLA licence revocation would be referred directly to our Professional Standards Committee (PSC) for consideration.

“The REC is only interested in representing professional recruitment companies who act within the law. As a result, we regularly remind members of their obligations and ensure that our own standards procedures complement the work of Government inspectorates and the GLA."

The REC Code of Professional Practice is enforced through a complaints line and through enforcement officers who randomly inspect our members.

The PSC is made up of REC members and representatives of the TUC and CBI.  In addition to its powers of expulsion, the committee can also issue sanctions such as a compulsory inspection or training of staff.
