REC calls on members to join campaign on benefits of temporary work
The discussions are likely to focus on the view of the trade unions that temporary workers are persistently exploited and that further legislation is needed.
The REC has insisted this is not the case. We have so far been successful in refuting this claim and have written to all MPs ahead of the debate to underline the industry’s perspective.
Tom Hadley, Director of External Relations explained: “Whilst we are fully engaged in initiatives to address cases of worker exploitation and rogue operators, we have to remain diligent and strong in defence of the perception of the industry, while the whole topic of agency workers still remains under scrutiny and in the public eye.
The REC has invited members to make their views known to their local MPs through explaining to them how many agency workers they place into work each week; the flexibility temporary work gives people in balancing their work and family life and the support they offer local businesses in order for them to remain competitive.
MPs must be made aware of the fact that the negative portrayal of the agency market is not one that legitimate agencies and the vast majority of temporary workers themselves would subscribe to.
