REC West Midlands stages second major recruitment conference
The event is the second annual West Midlands Recruitment and Diversity Conference and follows the success of inaugural forum last year which attracted more than 170 delegates.
This year’s conference on Thursday November 1 is at the Holiday Inn in Queensway, Birmingham. It will explore the Future of the UK Labour Market focussing on the issues being brought about by an ever-changing working environment, where skills shortages and a shift in demographics present opportunities and challenges to all involved with recruitment.Heading the list of keynote speakers is Ade Adepitan, the inspirational BBC presenter who was a member of Great Britain’s Paralympic basketball squad.
Also speaking at the conference on the future of the UK labour market is David Cragg, Regional Director of the West Midlands Learning and Skills Council.
Delegates will also be addressed by Helen Reynolds, the REC’s Acting Chief Executive Officer. Seminars throughout the day will be led by leading recruitment experts including specialists from the REC’s Head Office, Birmingham Professional DiverCity, Jobcentre Plus, ACAS and the Coming of Age Partnership.
The REC’s Director of External Relations, Tom Hadley with Solicitor and Commercial Adviser, Bryan Boese, will update delegates on the Threats and Opportunities for the Recruitment Industry in the West Midlands.
Cultural awareness in the workplace, diversity and the implications to businesses with the changing demographics along with an examination into possible impact of technological changes, such as Web 2.0, and globalisation will also be discussed during seminars throughout the day. The conference will conclude with a panel discussion.
Chairing the conference is Philip Delaloye, the REC’s Chair of Directors in the West Midlands region. He said: “The need to revise and review existing recruitment strategies, products and services while dealing with client expectations, new legislation, directives and initiatives creates pressure when time and resources are limited.
“We hope this conference will give delegates from the West Midlands an opportunity to really get to the heart of the issues which matter to them and take away with them some clear guidance to help them adapt and modify their business plans in order to meet the future challenges which everyone within recruitment is now embracing.”
The conference is being supported by Birmingham Professional DiverCity, Advantage West Midlands and Jobs@Pertemps. For more details about the conference and how to book, contact Lucy Beales, lucy.beales@rec.uk.com, tel: 020 7009 2156 or visit the website, www.rec.uk.com.
