REC urges the Government to protect agency jobs

Released on 24 September 2007

Tom Hadley, the REC’s Director of External Relations comments: "The union allegations that agency work is undermining permanent work simply don’t add up.

“Agency workers are not a cheap option once fees paid to the recruitment agency are added to the equation. REC research shows that most employers use agency workers responsively to meet a temporary need, such as a peak in production or to fill in when staff are off sick. The truth of the matter is, agency work provides job opportunities for over one million workers every week.

"Gordon Brown must not succumb to Union pressure aimed at dragging our modern labour market back to the dark ages."
