Adult Mental Health First Aid Training
These training courses are designed to help recruiters recognise the symptoms of mental health issues, provide initial help and guidance to a person.
All employers have a duty of care to support their employees’ wellbeing at the workplace. The impact of poor mental health can result in significant losses to the business through absence, reduced productivity and increased staff churn. Therefore, the REC, in its commitment to supporting the industry best practice and care, has partnered with an independent Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) England approved instructor, Joanne Quinn, to deliver the Adult MHFA training course.
The Adult MHFA course is an internationally recognised course. After taking it, you will be able to:
- Recognise the symptoms of mental health issues
- Provide initial help
- Guide a person towards appropriate professional help
MHFA won't teach you how to be a therapist, but once you’ve completed the course you will be able to say you're a Mental Health First Aider.
The course is delivered as 4 half-days (2.5 hrs sessions) over 2 weeks.
Due to the potentially upsetting nature of the subjects discussed, you must be 18 or over to be eligible to attend the training course.
Our quality assured MHFA instructor delivers training that has been designed to fit into four manageable chunks. These are:
- Mental Health First Aid, mental health, and depression
- Depression (cont.) and suicidal crisis
- Anxiety, personality disorders, eating disorders and self-harm
- Psychosis, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder
In each section you’ll learn how to:
- Spot the early signs of a mental health issue
- Feel confident helping someone experiencing a mental health issue
- Provide help on a first aid basis
- Help prevent someone from hurting themselves or others
- Help stop a mental health issue from getting worse
Format of the Course
This is an online course delivered through the MHFA England Online Learning Hub
Learning takes place through four live training sessions, spread across two weeks, with self-learning activities in between. You can download the course structure for more detail below.
Each session is built around a Mental Health First Aid action plan
We limit numbers to 16 people per course so that the instructor can keep people safe and supported while they learn
Everyone who attends the course receives a copy of the MHFA materials, which are excellent support resources. When you have completed the course, you will receive a certificate confirming that you are a trained Mental Health First Aider.
