The government opened the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (the furlough scheme) in late March 2020. The scheme has been extended several times since it first started and will now continue until 31 March 2021, subject to a further review at the end of January 2021.
Since 1 July 2020 employers have been able to furlough employees on a part-time basis. To comply with the scheme rules, employers must have an agreement with their employees about the furlough arrangements.
