"One in four working young people feel trapped in a cycle of jobs they don’t want, and while 73 per cent think they are capable of getting a better job, many are held back by low confidence and a lack of opportunities to develop their skills" - The Prince's Trust Macquarie Youth Index 2018.
The REC has partnered with OPERA, the recruitment and staffing industry’s first youth employment foundation. The REC is encouraging its members to raise money to support OPERA’s mission to get more young people into work, because jobs transform lives.
Not having the means with which to earn your way out of poverty has a toxic impact on young people’s lives. OPERA believes young people deserve your support and that recruiters working together can make a significant impact on thousands of young people’s lives across the UK.
Launched in September 2017 OPERA is the youth employment charity built to work with the recruitment and staffing industry to tackle youth unemployment. OPERA believes every young person deserves to thrive in life and good jobs are essential to making that happen. OPERA’s #thrivefund is one way they support young people into employment.
The purpose of the #thrivefund is to support disadvantaged young people into work by providing a bursary of up to £500. So far the #thrivefund has helped to support over 200 young people with work essentials. For example:
