REC Education

Research

According to the latest REC Census research, 5% of all recruitment businesses in the UK supply into the Education sector, a specialised market that nevertheless plays a vital role in facilitating the smooth running of the British education system. Demographic, economic, social and political trends all interact within the Education sector, creating a demanding environment for recruitment and staffi ng agencies as they seek to meet employer and worker requirements.

Within the sector, the number of primary and secondary schools and their pupils remains relatively stable, while the tertiary sector is growing. Alongside the provision of staff as teachers, the support staff workforce should not be forgotten as a key constituent of the sector and its employment opportunities.

Employers are highly satisfied with the service their agencies provide in this sector, as are workers, who generally seem to be paid as well as, or better than, their full-time colleagues, although they do wish for more training and support in their jobs – a comment echoed by full-time colleagues.
