REC announces AWD regional summits

The Prime Minister's announcement at the TUC Conference in Liverpool and a leak from Lord Mandelson’s office on implementation dates this week have once again thrown the spotlight back on the EU Agency Workers Directive.    

With the draft regulations due to be published over the next few weeks, the REC has announced a series of regional AWD Summits to provide recruiters with the latest update and practical tips for working with clients in starting to  prepare for implementation. 

The events in Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham and Edinburgh follow on from the REC's three previous Agency Summits which involved over 600 delegates.  

Underlining the significance of the Regional Summits in terms of the overall REC campaign, Chief Executive Kevin Green, says: “The input and active involvement of REC members has already made a huge impact and has helped to carry the industry's voice to the highest levels of Government.  

“There has never been a more important time for recruiters to come together and to share ideas and concerns. The next few months will be crucial and will undoubtedly shape the future of the recruitment landscape."   

Commenting on the aims of the regional Summits, Tom Hadley, the REC’s Director of External Relations says: "As well as continuing to influence the final outcome, the next phase is about helping professional recruiters plan ahead and work constructively with clients. As a result, the Regional Summits will include a practical focus on how equal treatment measures are likely to be implemented as well as detailed feedback from the REC's recent employer focus groups. With any change comes new opportunities and the aim is to ensure that REC members are once again ahead of the game."
