REC highlights UK industry perspective at Employment Week Conference in Brussels
Kevin Green, the REC’s Chief Executive, was one of the guest speakers yesterday at the 16th annual Employment Week conference and exhibition held at the Management Centre Europe in Brussels.
The week’s theme, Europe’s labour market – ensuring growth through human capital, was a reminder that downturns are all part of economic cycles, and that now was the time for governments and businesses to start preparing for when the recovery begins.
After giving an overview of the REC’s work and the current state of the UK economy, Kevin told the conference how work patterns had been changing because of employers’ need to save jobs.
His speech also showcased recent REC research which reveals that talent management and social attitudes coupled with a changing workforce and evolving technology will be the key drivers in the future recruitment landscape up to 2020.,
Kevin said: “A dynamic, flexible workforce remains the best way of serving future labour market changes. To achieve this, an entrepreneurial recruitment sector is crucial while Governments’ role should concentrate on creating the right social conditions rather than creating more bureacracy."
To do this, he concluded, Governments need to invest in education and skills, while at the same time, ensuring business can continue competing and winning through using the available talent pool.
Employment Week provides a forum for a wide range of individuals, businesses, social partners and government policy makers to discuss the latest trends in employment.
