REC response to GLA consultation on fees

Released on 5 January 2009

The REC has responded to the Gangmasters Licensing Authority’s consultation on their fees structure for April 2009-2010.

The GLA has substantially changed the structure of the fee levels at the higher end as it has been agreed with the Treasury that these fees need to reflect the cost of administering the licence regime.

Commenting on these changes Tom Hadley, the REC’s Director of External Relations said: "We welcome the close scrutiny that has been given to the GLA fee structure and believe that this is now much improved.  However we believe that the GLA should go one step further and consider how other parties, such as labour users who also benefit from the scheme, could contribute to its cost.

"The GLA should also be aware that the recruitment industry is entering a very uncertain economic climate and may need to respond to this in its budgetary planning."
