Recruitment trade body responds to revocation of GLA licence

Released on 3 October 2008

The Gangmaster Licensing Authority has made the decision to revoke a licence from Malcolm Plant for his new company which was to be set up in Spalding.

Commenting on this development,  Anne Fairweather, the REC's Head of Public Policy  said: “The REC notes that Mr Plant’s business Maximum Recruitment Agency is one of its members. The REC expects all members to abide by our Code of Professional Practice.  Following the revocation, our Professional Standards team will follow up this matter with Mr Plant to ensure that his business practices at Maximum Recruitment Agency are in accordance with our Code.”

The REC is committed to professional standards in recruitment and takes complaints against members as part of our standards procedure.  Ultimately these complaints may be referred to its Professional Standards Committee. This Committee has the power to issue sanctions, such as a compulsory inspection of a member’s business or ultimately expulsion from the REC.  The REC refers all GLA revocations which concern its members to its Professional Standards Committee.
