REC calls ‘Agency Summit’ ahead of June EU Council of Ministers

The REC will be hosting an ‘Agency Summit’ in London on June 2nd  just days before the EU Employment Council which may reach agreement on the EU Agency Workers Directive.

The Summit will provide a unique platform for employers, recruitment professionals and worker representatives to exchange views on the practical implications of possible new regulations and to discuss a range of agency and flexible working issues.

The event will also form part of the REC’s National Temporary Workers Week and will showcase latest research from the REC Industry Research Unit.

Commenting on the aims of the Agency Summit, REC Director of External Relations, Tom Hadley says:

“With ongoing Trade Union pressure for more regulation and with the political and media spotlight on the agency sector, there has never been a more important time for recruitment professionals and employers to come together and debate the future of the agency work landscape in the UK.

"The contribution of temporary and contract workers is increasingly recognised and it is crucial to ensure that any new regulations are workable in practice and take on board the legitimate concerns of both users and suppliers of temporary and contract workers.".

The ‘Agency Summit’ will include the input of employer groups, trade unions and think tanks as well as representatives from all sectors of the UK recruitment industry.

Key areas that will be covered during the discussions include:
  • Trends in company resourcing strategies – where does agency work fit in and how will its role develop over the next five years;
  • Different issues facing large and small employers and agencies;
  • The latest update on proposed new national and EU regulations;
  • Practical and legal perspectives on how proposed equal treatment provisions would work in practice;
  • How were such measures implemented in other EU countries?
  • How would the proposed equal treatment legislation impact on the agency market in the UK? How can employers and agencies  prepare?
  • What will be the specific impact in the different sectors that agencies supply into?
  • The role and remit of the Government’s proposed ‘Agency Work Commission
