Welfare Reform - REC promotes industry role at launch event
The REC took part in the launch event of the Government’s latest report on Welfare Reform which includes details on the structure and commissioning strategy for suppliers.
Speaking at the event, James Purnell, Secretary of State for Work & Pensions said:
“The private and voluntary sector already plays a role in delivering our work programmes. I want to take this to the next level, free them from central control and allow them to innovate. For the providers the rewards will be high, with longer contracts and a growing market, but in return I will set high expectations with payment on results”.
The launch provided a further opportunity for highlighting the role that recruitment agencies can play in this extremely topical area. Speaking after the event, REC Director of External Relations, Tom Hadley, said:
“The demand for workers outstrips the supply of suitable candidates in a number of sectors. As a result, recruiters welcome the focus on innovative and outcome-driven solutions for getting more people into the world of work. As part of this, temporary assignments should be seen as a way of equipping jobseekers with the confidence and the experience they need to progress within the labour market.”
The REC External Relations team will continue to explore and promote the opportunities that the Welfare Reform agenda can present for recruiters and members will be kept up to date with all developments.
