REC "recruitment champions" prepare for House of Commons showdown

The week ahead  promises to be significant for the UK recruitment industry with the Private Members Bill on agency work due to be discussed in the House of Commons next Friday (February 22).

As part of the REC's ongoing lobbying campaign, hundreds of members  have already taken an active role by contacting their local MPs to fight the industry's corner.

These "recruitment champions" will make a huge contribution to the current debates in Whitehall and Brussels by providing practical insights as recruitment professionals delivering a daily service to both employers and workers.

Ahead of the debate,Tom Hadley, the REC's Director of External Relations, says:

"At this highly sensitive and crucial time, it is a huge boost to see such a massive response from our members.

"This is a real show of strength in the face of sustained trade union pressure for more regulations on our sector. The REC has always argued that the basic premise underpinning the need for more regulation, ie that temporary work is synonymous with exploitation and bad practice, is deeply flawed and out of touch with reality.

"Who better to counter this than the recruitment professionals in the frontline of the UK's labour market?"

All REC members will be provided with regular updates on the lobbying campaign. As part of this, the REC will be taking part in a briefing session with MPs at the House of Commons next Wednesday, in conjunction with other leading business organisations such as British Chambers of Commerce, the IoD and the Federation of Small Businesses.
