REC member meets Minister to raise AWR concerns
REC member Prime Appointments met this week with Employment Relations Minister Edward Davey MP to provide a practical perspective on the forthcoming Agency Work Regulations (AWR). Although the Government has decided to not re-open the regulations, there is a commitment to work with the REC and with individual agencies to facilitate implementation and to develop effective guidance.
Robyn Holmes, Prime Appointments’ Managing Director, had initially raised industry concerns over forthcoming regulations with local MP Pritti Patel. The meeting with the Minister came as a direct result of these discussions.
Commenting on the outcome, Robyn Holmes said:
“It is imperative that the Government is aware of the practical issues surrounding these regulations especially as it has pledged to cut any unnecessary red tape. In the current climate, temporary work is an excellent way for people to get back into the jobs market and we must ensure that job opportunities are not jeopardised as a result. The Minister took this on board and recognised the need for user-friendly guidance which reflects the specific questions raised by recruiters.”
REC members across all regions have been encouraged to contact local MPs on specific issues such as the Agency Work Regulations and to take forward the broad messages in the REC’s Manifesto http://www.rec.uk.com/about-recruitment/externalrelations/recmanifesto.
