How to Apply for REC Membership
If you are interested in becoming an REC Member and taking advantage of the full range of benefits it brings, you will need to satisfy REC that you can meet certain criteria.
What are the criteria?
Applicant Companies must be employment agencies or businesses, which fulfil one or more of the following criteria:
- have been trading for at least one year in the UK
- are owned or operated by one or more individuals with more than one year’s experience of working in the recruitment industry
- are owned or operated by one or more individuals who have attended the REC 3-day ‘Starting Up a Recruitment Agency’ course.
All Corporate Members are required to agree to adhere to the Code of Professional Practice, which is enforced through our Complaints and Disciplinary Procedure. View our Terms and Conditions of Membership below.
How can you apply?
You can register your details in order for information to be sent to you directly, or .
1. Call the REC Customer Contact Centre on 0207 009 2100 and ask to speak to the Business Development Team.
2. Request an Application Form and Payment Calculation Form.
3: Send your completed Application Form and payment to the REC.
What happens next?
Once your completed application has been received it will be processed within 10 working days.
Once processed, applications will be publicised on the REC website to allow existing members the opportunity to raise any concerns in relation to adherence to the REC Code of Professional Practice.
You will then need to take and pass the REC’s online Compliance Test. You will have three attempts to pass the test within a six month period. Please click here for further information about the Compliance Test.
The Compliance Test will ask you whether you are adopting the REC’s model contracts with your candidates and clients. If you wish to retain your own contracts, you will need to attach them to the Compliance Test and they will checked for compliance with relevant legislation by REC staff.
Your status will be that of Unqualified Corporate Member (i.e. Working Towards REC Membership) until you pass the Compliance Test and have your contracts approved (if you are retaining your own). During this time you will have full access to the REC’s member benefits and services but you will not be able to use the REC logo.
Once you have passed the Compliance Test and your contracts have been approved (where relevant) you will be elected into full Corporate Membership and you will be given access to the REC logo; you will also be included in our Membership Directory
Calculation of Fees
The membership fee is calculated on the basis of your company turnover. A one-off joining fee will also apply and please contact the REC Business Development Team for more information.
Membership is valid for 12 months (Membership year one). Upon renewal you will be required to pay a pro-rata amount to 31st December for membership year two. For subsequent years subscriptions will become due on 1st January. Membership fees can be paid by quarterly direct debit.
