Jobcentre Plus

jobcentre plusWhat is Jobcentre Plus?
Jobcentre Plus is a part of the Department for Work and Pensions.

We aim to:

  • help more people into paid work
  • help employers fill their vacancies, and
  • give people of working age the help and support they are entitled to if they cannot work.

Are you looking for work?
Jobcentre Plus wants to help you get back to work quickly. Even in an economic downturn, many jobs are available. Meanwhile, we’ll step in by paying you benefits and helping you look for work or learn new skills.

At Jobcentre Plus we offer professional, modern and free services to help you get a job. We work with hundreds of recruitment agencies and have a strong partnership with the REC, so we understand what works for you.

We also have a set of Recruitment Advisory Services offering a wide range of measures to help you find work. The support we offer can vary depending on the support you need.

How do I find work again?
Many employers advertise vacancies online and ask you to apply online. To keep up with the latest vacancies, you will need to:

  • find ways of having access to the internet
  • have your own email address
  • know how to find vacancies and fill in applications online.

Jobcentre Plus has Britain's largest database of job vacancies and has many jobs available. Search for a job now.  You can also search for a job on Directgov.
Both sites access the same vacancies but offer different search criteria, so you can choose the one that best suits your needs.

We have also produced a job kit which provides helpful advice on finding work; it includes CV and interview tips and information to help you overcome any concerns, find and get the job you're looking for.

Or you can use the Jobpoints when you're visiting a Jobcentre Plus office.
Or you can call us and speak to one of our advisers.

Have you ever thought of working for yourself?
If you have an idea for a business but don’t know how to get started more information is available.

What if I want or need to retrain?
Refreshing your skills or learning new ones can increase your chances of finding a new job.

Jobcentre Plus can advise you on skills options.  Depending on your age and qualifications you may be able to get free courses.

More information on skills and training can be found here.

For more information about how Jobcentre Plus can help you look for work or learn new skills, you can download a copy of the leaflet 'Find your way back to work' here.

Do I qualify for benefit?
Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) is the main benefit for unemployed people. When you make a new or repeat claim we can arrange for an adviser to help with your job search.
