The response to NTWW in 2007 was phenomenal, with participating agencies exhibiting a great deal of flair and imagination in rewarding their temps.

Congratulations to People Finders Ltd for being the first agency to submit an unusual story. A bottle of bubbly and balloons are on the way to them...
"Although we do have a wide variety of assignments booked through People Finders, from selling Red Noses to assisting with "scouts" in the search for Perth's Next Top Model, our most unusual request, by far, was for 20 Chicken Catchers! It was most difficult to persuade our candidates that this was not a wind-up, but that said, we did manage to book the staff! No-one could say that People Finders temps are not adaptable."
"Last October a local hospital installed a new CAT scanner and requested we sent a temp for two days as a guinea pig.We sent a rather charming young man who spent two days in his boxer shorts drinking coffee, eating biscuits, and occasionally lying in different positions on the machine in front of a mixture of radiographers and student nurses. All of this was compounded by the fact that during the contact he got a date with one of the nurses!
We found him lots of other work after that but I don't think any of it measured up to that particular contract!"
"We currently have Mr Romualdas Pipas working for us. Originally from Lithuania he arrived in Ireland 3 years ago. He worked in the South of Ireland for a while and then moved north. Being Lithuanian speaking with a southern Irish accent raised a few eye brows but his "can do" attitude made him one of our most valuable assets. He was offered permanent work through each temping assignment.
He agreed to relocate to Liverpool for us, on short term basis, to assist in setting up a very large contract. He taught himself Polish in three months of being in Belfast and is now our translator. He is surely a professional temp. Boundless enthusiam for his work and attention to detail makes him easy to place. Speaking five languages he is well known in these parts and every employer he has been with has always wanted him back. He is well respected by all and always goes the extra mile to accommodate. No job too difficult! No job too far! No language barriers!"
All temp workers will receive a gift voucher that week and will all go into a prize drawer for a further gift voucher for £50 M&S Vouchers. We are also having a recruitment open day on 2nd June when all candidates will be greeted with a glass of champagne and chocolates.
Being within the industry for only a short period of time I envisaged placing PA's, Customer Service staff and Administrators so with this in mind I was not prepared for a 2 week assignment packing condoms. Thank god I am open minded and creative in how I sold this job! Needless to say we have a great temp and a great assignment.
Blackburn with Darwen Council Employment Agency
Usually, as an Agency purely for the Council, we are asked to source admin and clerical staff or childcare workers so we were shocked to be asked to find someone to support a Commis Chef to undertake public demonstrations in the local market on healthy cooking techniques - with just 12 hours notice!
After racking our brains, we found one of our newly registered administrators trained as a Chef years earlier so we called him and managed to convince him to give this a try. Luckily enough, he was not the shy, retiring type and threw himself into this unusual one-day assignment. He cooked, cleaned and answered questions all day - letting members of the public taste the food they had cooked and ensured the Commis Chef was kept supplied with chopped/diced/peeled vegetables, etc. He thoroughly enjoyed the day and our Market Superintendant said we had saved the day as without our agency worker they could not have undertaken the cooking demonstration and the money for the Chef would have been wasted!
Each year since 2004 we have organised a South Liverpool Business & Community Awards ceremony that is held at the Liverpool Marriott Hotel South. 160 guests attend and, following a nominations process, awards are given in categories such as Unseen Hero, Manager of the Year, Business Contribution to the Area. etc. Previous comperes have included the comedian Tom O'Connor and this year's event is being hosted by BBC Radio Merseyside's Willie MIller with entertainment provided by comedienne Pauline Daniels and Roger Conga's Samba Band(!)
This year South Liverpool Recruitment are introducing two Temp of the Month Awards (one industrial, one commercial) for workers that we place. The winners will each win a meal for two at a local restaurant. Each year we will pick an overall winner and they will be our guests at the Business & Community Awards ceremony. This year the awards ceremony is taking place on Friday 6th June, giving us a great opportunity to promote National Temporary Workers Week!
These are absolutely fantastic stories so please do keep them coming in!
Another luck agency will also receive a bottle of champagne and a box of chocolates for the best unusual story. The draw for this will take place in June.
