Agency Care Worker

Olutade Ojelabi

Nominated by Geneva Health, London

London care worker Olutade Ojelabi has  been declared one of the UK’s top temporary workers.

Olutade was awarded the highly commended prize in the Agency Care Worker category of the One in a Million Award given to the UK’s top temporary worker.

Olutade of Mile End, was nominated by recruitment agency, Geneva Health International for whom he been working since January last year as a healthcare assistant in hospitals and homecare.

Arriving in the UK two years ago from Lagos in Nigeria, his background is in electronics and engineering but decided to make a complete career change. Having always felt compelled to help those less fortunate than himself, he felt this was a calling rather than a job.

Prior to working in the UK, Olutade was on a three year placement at Life Support Medical in Lagos and made such an impact, he was offered an opportunity to go to Germany to do a technician’s course. Gaining a qualification, he returned to Lagos and worked for Life Support Medical for another three years.

He came to the UK to improve his skills and enhance his career opportunities.  He chose temping because of the flexibility it offers him while he is studying for his Dialysis Technician Qualification. Also it gives him a chance to be placed in different hospitals and different wards.

Sarah Tasker of Geneva said: “He is an extremely passionate care worker and this is clearly demonstrated by his very high standard of patient care. His main focus is always to make sure his patients are happy in spite of their illnesses and needs.”

Helen Reynolds, the REC’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer, said: “Olutade shows how a change of career can open up so many opportunities both in his own personal development and his exemplary standards and professional attitude towards his work caring for the sick.”
