Nominated by Alium Partners, London

Business Development specialist Gary Kimberley has been declared one of the UK’s top interim workers.
Gary has won the highly commended prize in the Interim Manager of the Year category of the One in a Million Award given to the UK’s top temporary worker.
Gary was nominated by London-based interim management firm, Alium Partners, who introduced him to this assignment in April last year. With his 25 years of sales and marketing management experience, he decided to go into interim management because it suits his highly paced project orientation and energetic interpersonal style.
Currently Gary is spearheading a new innovation at The Book Service, which is the distribution arm of the Random House Group. In establishing this new service, he has turned a strategic opportunity into a commercial reality.
His role was to launch new concepts that would generate additional revenue streams into a well-established market. These new concepts included Digital Services; Digital Archive, e-Book and Widget Solutions; and Sales and Marketing Services.
Chloe Watts of Alium Partners said: “The Publishing Services strand under Gary’s leadership is strengthening Random House’s ties with existing customers as well as drawing in new business from publishers not attracted by the core distribution offering alone.”
Gary helped to recruit his permanent successor but will stay at Random House throughout 2008 to concentrate on bringing the more advanced Digital Services offerings to market.
Helen Reynolds, the REC’s Acting Chief Executive Officer, said: “Gary is the classic example of an experienced business professional who now enjoys the flexibility of working across a range of projects. The fact that Random House agreed to put Gary forward for the One in a Million Award speaks volumes about the way he has delivered a successful outcome to this exciting new venture.”
