The Recruitment & Employment Confederation - The Voice of the Recruitment Industry

Degree in Recruitment Practice

In collaboration with the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) Middlesex University Business School has designed a Foundation Degree in Recruitment Practice which combines taught modules with validated workbased learning modules.

Holders of the Diploma in Recruitment Practice are awarded 120 credits towards their degree and are therefore able to gain an exemption from Year One of the programme.

Students studying for the Degree are introduced to the recruitment process and related issues as well as embarking on workbased learning modules to help review their existing learning (for which they can claim credit) and draw up a plan for a project.

During the course of their studies they then complete further projects testing their analytical and evaluative approach to issues they need to deal with in the workplace. This leads to the Foundation award after which they are eligible to progress to the final year of a BA(Hons) in Recruitment Practice where they are introduced to research methods which prepare them to undertake their final project.

Those working in the recruitment industry who can draw on years of experience can also use combinations of workbased learning modules to gain a Certificate/Diploma/Masters or Doctorate in Recruitment Practice. In all cases they work through the same cycle of 'Review of Learning' leading to accreditation, research and planning of a project and the completion of a project at the appropriate academic level.

The Director of Professional Development at the REC, Judith Armatage, sees this flexible way of blending taught and workbased learning modules as playing an important role in improving industry standards:

‘The Recruitment and Employment Confederation has been working closely with Middlesex University Business School for the past two years. Their flexible and adaptable approach to learning in the work environment has resulted in a portfolio of relevant and realistic qualifications for recruiters and I am in no doubt of the benefit this has had on attracting, retaining and improving standards in the industry’
