Conditions of Membership
To join the REC, an agency must meet our standards. In addition to the checks on company status and references carried out by our Membership team, agencies must meet the following criteria:
- must have a complaints procedure
- must have an equal opportunities procedure
- must be aware of, and comply with, advertising regulations.
- must be aware of, and comply with, industry legislation governing business contracts.
The REC provides model documents and contracts for members to use if they choose to do so. If they do not, their documents must be vetted by an Assessor and approved as compliant before membership can be approved.
Inspections
In 2007, the REC introduced compulsory inspections to ensure members work to our standards. Our Inspection Team operates nationwide, and 10% of our corporate members will be selected for inspection each year. To find out more, click here.
Self-Assessments
Also new to 2007, we have launched a self-assessment project aimed to ensure we raise awareness of REC standards by surveying 50% of our members each year, and providing support in any areas that require improvement. Joining the REC requires signing agreement to participate in these important new initiatives.
