SELF - Sustainable Employment Legacy Forum

The Construction Sector Group has founded a Sustainable Employment Legacy Forum (SELF) to respond to the challenges ahead in ensuring that the Olympics deliver in terms of an employment legacy for the people who live in some of London’s poorest boroughs.

SELF brings together businesses and stakeholders involved in constructing the Olympics and is focusing on the delivery of the employment legacy.

SELF has four key aims focused on short and medium-term delivery. These are:

  • Early introduction into the construction industry.
  • The Transfer of skills to the Construction Industry.
  • Encouraging workplace diversity in Construction.
  • The professional management of migrant labour.

To this end SELF can set targets for a number of initiative such as:

  • Site visits for school children
  • Supporting apprenticeships
  • Assisting in the provision of training courses to transfer skills.

SELF was launched on 26th January 2006 in London and draws on the commitment from businesses and other stakeholders involved to deliver on these targets.
