The provision of medical and care services to the general public is one of the greatest challenges in the UK today, not least because demand will grow inexorably both as a result of demographic trends and as expectations rise. At the same time, medical science and technology offers a steady stream of costly additions to the tool kit for nursing and care services which can be applied to great benefit, but at a cost.
